Every second of every day, blood is pumping to and from your heart and throughout your body via veins and arteries. Within your veins are a series of valves that open and close accordingly, so as to prevent your blood from flowing backwards. As we age, these valves tend to weaken or can become damage for whatever reason, allowing blood to pass back through and collect in the vein. While this is rarely a cause for concern, this can cause unsightly varicose veins where the vein becomes swollen and enlarged, appearing dark blue or purple in colour, large and bulging against the surface of your skin. There are various other factors that can contribute to the formation of varicose veins, which can be an unsightly and embarrassing prospect for many people. Luckily, we offer Sclerotherapy at the Face Medical Clinic in Heywood, which is an effective varicose vein removal procedure involving chemical injections.

Thread veins tend to appear on your legs and feet more than any other part of your body, but can appear anywhere on both men and women. If you're suffering with one or a number of these pesky veins, you should schedule a consultation with Deborah Vines, or another of our expert practitioners here at Face Medical Clinic. We will go through your concerns together, carrying out a full assessment of your condition in order to formulate an effective, personalised treatment plan. This way, we can tailor your results for the best possible outcome. At this stage, it's worth sharing any questions you might have so that we can put your mind at ease about any part of your treatment, from procedure to aftercare.

The procedure itself consists of numerous tiny injections of a chemical called a sclerosant into the affected vein. This is a safe and quick procedure that damages and blocks the vein in order to kill it safely and naturally within the body. Depending on your individual situation, an appropriate course of treatments will be scheduled over a few weeks until the affected veins have been completely eliminated. We are only limited by the amount of sclerosant we can use at any one time to ensure that your procedure is 100% safe.

Immediately after your Sclerotherapy treatment, we will apply compression stockings to the treatment area so as to apply a little helpful pressure, after which we recommend wearing a stocking for a week or so post-treatment. You will most likely experience some initial bruising, but this will soon fade in no time. Your practitioner will go through your aftercare with you, but if you have any concerns after your treatment, we'd be more than happy to help at any time.
