Dermal Fillers for Marionette Lines

Marionette lines are wrinkles that start at the corners of the mouth and run down to the sides of the chin. These unflattering impressions of age take their name from the type of puppet known as a marionette – a stringed object famous for its exaggerated jawline – and can become noticeable as early as our mid-20s before increasing in intensity when we reach the age of 40.

Like other wrinkles, marionette lines appear due to our natural loss of collagen and elastin. Diminishing supplies of these proteins can also pave the way for skin that appears to droop or sag, with lifestyle factors such as smoking and sun exposure further accelerating this unfortunate side effect of getting older.

Despite the emergence of marionette lines being a seemingly unavoidable part of the ageing process, we use Juvéderm® dermal fillers to help our patients address these unsightly creases and guide them towards smoother, younger-looking skin across the lower half of the face.

Consultation

All patients wishing to book in for dermal fillers for marionette lines will be asked to undergo a comprehensive consultation with a member of our highly experienced aesthetics team, a group of aesthetics experts overseen by our resident aesthetic nurse, Deborah Vines. It’s here that your problem areas will be analysed in full, with recommendations made on the correct form of treatment for you. As Juvéderm® is an FDA-approved injectable, patients who join us for dermal filler treatment can benefit from an established product with an unquestionable safety profile and a team with the requisite skills to reintroduce some essential structure, plumpness and definition back into the face.

The Procedure

When used for the management of marionette lines, Juvéderm® dermal fillers are injected in several locations around the corners of the mouth. This form of treatment is most successful when these wrinkles are in their early stages, as deeper creases can be more difficult to erase. As Juvéderm® dermal fillers are largely composed of hyaluronic acid - a natural substance responsible for the creation of plump, hydrated skin - facial volume will be restored instantly and results will last for up to 12 months.

Aftercare

One of the main benefits of opting for a non-surgical treatment such as dermal fillers is the almost complete lack of downtime that you can expect to experience. In most cases, any discomfort or swelling should subside within a few days and you should be able to go about your routine as normal. It is recommended that you refrain from heavy exercise and drinking alcohol for 24 hours after treatment.

FAQs

How much do Marionette Line fillers cost?

The price of Marionette Line Fillers at Face Medical Clinic is from £200.

How does Juvéderm® work?

Juvéderm® is a dermal filler composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance with many significant moisturising and hydrating properties. When injected into the skin, hyaluronic acid has a plumping effect and can restore lost volume to areas that have begun to thin, sag and wrinkle over time.

Does the procedure hurt?

This will largely depend on your individual pain threshold. As the filler is added to the skin via a needle, you should expect some discomfort. Most Juvéderm® fillers feature a small dose of lidocaine, a local anaesthetic that can ease any pain.

How long does the procedure last?

This will last anywhere between 20-30 minutes and will depend on the technique of your practitioner and your individual treatment plan.

How long do the results last?

In most instances, Juvéderm® will last for at least a year and results can be seen for up to 24 months.

What are the side effects?

Aside from some swelling and redness, patients should not experience many side effects from treatment. There is a chance you may suffer some mild bruising, but this is quite uncommon.
