Sclerotherapy
Thread veins are small blood vessels in the skin. They may be tiny, but they are often a source of great embarrassment and distress. They can appear suddenly, out of the blue, on the nose, cheeks and legs, and are also known as spider veins or broken capillaries. Usually they cause no problems, but occasionally they result in burning or pricking sensations. They do not usually indicate a serious vein condition and are not a threat to your health.
In many cases, they do not need treatment, but Sclerotherapy will alleviate any symptoms of discomfort and improves appearance.
Sclerotherapy is a simple treatment in which an injectable sclerosant solution is introduced into the thread vein using a fine needle to obliterate the lumen of the vein, causing the thread vein to close and fade over the course of several weeks.
The results may not always result in perfect skin appearance, but there is great improvement in most cases. A course of three or four treatments over a 9-12 month period is usually needed to achieve the maximum degree of fading.
Although blood vessels are quite fragile, and may look worse for the first few weeks after treatment,
the needles used for sclerosant injection are very fine and the treatment is entirely painless.

Serious side effects are extremely rare. Some patients will see bruising or pigmentation, and fine red vessels can develop after treatment, but all such side effects will gradually fade away. You may need top-up treatments every 2 to 3 years to alleviate any new thread veins that may develop.
